Operation Guillotine was a highly classified United States military operation in Iran which occurred from 31 October to 14 November 2014. In response to the rise to power of Quds Force general and People's Liberation and Resistance terrorist group leader Faruk al-Bashir as the de facto authoritarian leader of Iran following a devastating earthquake in March 2014, the United States - with the tacit consent of President Hassan Rouhani's government - intervened in Iran to overthrow the terrorist regime. In an offensive spearheaded by the US Marine Corps, the Iranian capital of Tehran fell after fierce fighting from 31 October to 2 November 2014, and al-Bashir died in a traffic incident while trying to flee the city on the last day of the battle. On 13 November 2014, the actions of Russia's GRU intelligence agency prevented PLR terrorists from using a Russian-made suitcase nuclear bomb to destroy Paris and frame Russia for the attack, and, on 14 November, a PLR bomb plot in New York City was also thwarted due to the heroic actions of Staff Sergeant Henry Blackburn. The death of al-Bashir and the thwarting of the PLR's terrorist attacks in Paris and New York City resulted in the destruction of the PLR and the resumption of Rouhani's presidency, although Iranian ultranationalism and anti-American sentiment in Iran continued to fuel the nation's rivalry with America.
