Operation Edaleta Lezgîn was a joint US Delta Force-Iraqi Kurdish Peshmerga counter-insurgency operation which was conducted against the Islamic State in Diyala Governorate, Iraq in October 2021. In the aftermath of a wave of ISIL hit-and-run attacks in Iraq, the Americans decided to initiate a fresh operation against the terror group to limit its operational capacities. In conjunction with the Peshmerga, Delta Force attacked a village which served as a hideout for ISIL. The first strongpoint to be captured by the Coalition forces was then subjected to ISIL artillery bombardment and a brief counterattack on foot, but the attacks were repelled before the allies advanced once again. The Americans sent in a gunship to provide air suport to a ground push against the next ISIL strongpoint; the gunship neutralized ISIL fighters on the rooftop of the building, and the allies were able to destroy the weapons stockpiled there. The allies destroyed several other weapons caches during their push, running into increasingly fierce resistance as they pushed into the heart of the ISIL stronghold. Eventually, the allies withdrew after severely weakening ISIL's regional strength.
