Operation Charlotte Corday was a failed OAS assassination attempt on President of France Charles de Gaulle that occurred on 22 August 1962. Jean Bastien-Thiry signalled for three OAS members to rake De Gaulle's car with machine gun fire in the Paris suburb of Petit-Clamart, and one bullet barely missed De Gaulle's head. The failed assassination attempt led to Bastien-Thiry's execution and the arrest of several other members of the plot.
