History[]

The US Marine Corps launched an offensive against Islamic State of Iraq militants in Iraq in the summer of 2007, and their forces engaged the Sunni militants at a quarry near a city. The American convoy was ambushed, so they left the humvees and troop transports and engaged the militants, who used mortars to assault the convoy. The Marines fired on the insurgents from their cover in buildings near the convoy and from a crater created by the mortars, and they engaged in a large battle with the militants. The killzone was maintained for the whole battle, and the Americans could not hope to advance beyond the killzone. The insurgents who moved into the killzone were killed in the crossfire, and the Marines were victorious in the battle.
