Operation Armada (7 October 1984) was an operation conducted by the CIA that began after a prototype Soviet submarine sunk in the North Atlantic Ocean. The KGB's Spetsnaz Vympel Group deployed and engaged the CIA-JSOC task force at the salvage site. Despite the Spetsnaz's early gains, they were ultimately driven off and the prototype submarine was successfully retrieved, studied and salvaged at Washington DC.
