Omar Suarez

Omar Suarez (died 1980) was the right-hand man of wealthy Miami drug dealer Frank Lopez. In 1980, he was murdered by Alejandro Sosa for his previous status as an NYPD informer.

Biography[]

Omar Suarez was born in Cuba, and he later emigrated to the United States, where he found work under drug trafficker Frank Lopez. He became Lopez's right-hand man, assisting him with running his criminal business out of Miami. During the 1970s, however, he worked as an NYPD informant in New York City, and his assistance of the police put Vito Duval and the brothers Nello and Gino Ramos in prison for life. Suarez continued to work for Lopez, however, and he became rivals with Lopez's new associate Tony Montana in 1980. Suarez had Montana set up when he sent him to do a drug deal with Colombian drug lord Hector the Toad, in which Montana's friend Angel Fernandez was killed. However, Montana survived, and Montana and Suarez were sent to meet with Bolivian drug lord Alejandro Sosa in Cochabamba, Bolivia to discuss a cocaine shipment. During the meeting, Suarez insisted on speaking to Lopez in person about Sosa's terms, and Sosa had him take a helicopter to Santa Cruz, from which he could take a jet back to Miami. However, Sosa discovered that Suarez was a rat, and he had him beaten and hanged from the helicopter, executing him for Montana to see through binoculars.
