Omar Ould Hamaha (5 July 1963-8 March 2014) was the military commander of the Movement for Oneness and Jihad in West Africa (MOJWA).
Biography[]
Omar Ould Hamaha was born on 5 July 1963 in Kidal, Mali to a family of Sunni Muslim Arabs, and he decided to go to a madrassa in Mauritania instead of university. In the mid 2000s he joined al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and became Mokhtar Belmokhtar's deputy, and Belmokhtar married Hamaha's daughter. Both of them evaded capture by France and MINUSMA troops during Operation Serval, France's intervention in the Malian Civil War. However, on 8 March 2014 he was killed in battle with French security forces in northeastern Mali. On 13 February 2016, AQIM confirmed his death.
