Omagh bombing

The Omagh bombing occurred at 3:10 PM on 15 August 1998 when the Real IRA launched a car bomb attack against a courthouse in Omagh, Northern Ireland after refusing to agree with the Good Friday Agreement. The IRA and United Kingdom had agreed to a ceasefire, but the IRA did not decommission its weapons quickly enough, leading to continued conflict; the RIRA perpetrated the deadliest attack of The Troubles. 31 people were killed and 220 injured, killing both Protestant Ulster Scots unionists and Catholic Irish republicans. The bombing hindered the peace process, and the Real IRA actually apologized after the attack, committing to the ceasefire.
