Olof Tratalja (640-700) was the Jarl of Svibjod from 680 to 700, succeeding Ingjald and preceding Valdar. He was the last ruler of the Ynglings.
Biography[]
Olof Tratalja was born in 640, the son of Ingjald and Gauthildr Algautsdottir. In 680, he became King of Svibjod after his father's death at the hands of Ivar Vidfamne, and Olof led the Ynglings against the hostile Swedes, who rose in rebellion against the Ynglings due to Ingjald's atrocities against them. Olof was nicknamed "Tree-feller" for creating the province of Varmland, with the Ynglings clearing land and creating a new society. Eventually, the Swedes' numbers grew as they fled Ivar Vidfamne's harsh rule, and the Swedes outnumbered the Ynglings. The Swedes accused Olof of being responsible for the famine in Sweden, blaming the famine on the lack of sacrifices made to the gods. In retaliation for the famine, the Swedes set fire to Olof's house on Lake Vaenern with Olof inside of it, sacrificing their king to Odin and ending the Yngling dynasty.
