Oleksii Reznikov

Oleksii Yuriyovych Reznikov (18 June 1966-) was the Defense Minister of Ukraine from 4 November 2021 to 3 September 2023, succeeding Andriy Taran and preceding Rustem Umerov.

Biography[]

Oleksii Yuriyovych Reznikov was born in Lviv, Lviv Oblast, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union in 1966, and he served in the Soviet Air Force from 1984 to 1986. Following the Dissolution of the Soviet Union, he co-founded a brokerage company, and he also became a lawyer. In 2014, he was elected to the Kyiv City Council as a member of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc, and he served as Minister of Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories from 2020 to 2021 and as Defense Minister from 2021 to 2023. He was fired amid graft allegations aimed at his ministry (though not at Reznikov himself), and as Zelensky sought "new approaches" as the war entered its nineteenth month.
