Ofelia Hernandez

Ofelia Hernandez (died 1990) was a wealthy Colombian heiress who was abducted by Pablo Escobar's hitman Roberto Ramos in 1990. She was a member of one of the most influential families in the country, and her kidnapping marked a change in the Medellin Cartel's tactics as advised by Gustavo Gaviria, who told Escobar that he needed leverage over his enemies (Gaviria feared that his men would rape the beautiful Hernandez while she was in captivity, however). When President Cesar Gaviria refused to give in to Escobar, politician Fernando Duque informed Escobar of his decision, and he had Ramos shoot her in the forehead in her prison cell. Her body was dumped next to the Presidential Palace as a warning to the president, threatening the execution of more hostages, who would later include journalist Diana Turbay.
