Oenone (died 1183 BC) was the first wife of Prince Paris of Troy.
Biography[]
Oenone was born on Mount Ida in Phrygia, and she learned the gift of prophecy from Rhea. She fell in love with the shepherd Paris, and she gave birth to his daughter Corythus. Oenone predicted the Trojan War after Paris sailed to Sparta on a diplomatic mission, and, out of revenge for Paris' decision to leave her for Helen, she had her son Corythus guide the Greeks to Troy. After Paris was mortally wounded by Philoctetes' arrow, Paris came to Oenone at Mount Ida and sought her help with healing him, but she told him to return to Helen's bed, and Paris died at the foot of the mountain. Full of remorse, Oenone threw herself onto Paris' funeral pyre.
