The October 2023 UNRWA school airstrike was an Israeli airstrike that struck a United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNWRA) school in the al-Maghazi refugee camp in the Gaza Strip on 17 October 2023 during Operation Iron Swords. On the same day as the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital explosion - initially blamed on Israel by pro-Palestinian activists and international organizations - an Israeli airstrike killed at least 6 of the more than 4,000 people who had sheltered at the UN school, while dozens more (including UNRWA staff) were injured. That same day, the WHO reported that 2,800 people had died and 11,000 had been injured in Gaza since Israeli airstrikes began, while Israel had attacked 51 healthcare facilities and killed 15 health workers and injured 27 others.
