The Obama Domain was a feudal domain of the Tokugawa Shogunate ruled by the Sakai clan. It was centered in Wakasa Province, located in northern Central Honshu.

The Sakai clan of Obama domain were firm supporters of the Shogunate. Sakai Tadakatsu belonged to the roju, or elders, under Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first Shogun. The Sakai clan also claimed to be related to the Minamoto clan, making them well connected. Because of their long experience in government and administration, the Sakai were experts at managing populations. They received a taxation bonus, were highly efficient at repression, and paid lean upkeep for land forces. Their garrison troops were also high quality.
