Oath Keepers

The Oath Keepers are an American far-right extremist and anti-government militia organization which was founded in March 2009 by former US Army paratrooper Elmer Stewart Rhodes as an organization of current and former police, soldiers, and first responders who would be willing to rise against their government should they need to keep their sworn oath to "defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic." By 2016, the Oath Keepers had 35,000 members, operating in localized militias associated with the "sovereign citizen" movement and the white supremacist posse comitatus movement. During the 2014-2015 Ferguson unrest in Missouri, members of the Oath Keepers patrolled streets and rooftops with semi-automatic rifles; the Oath Keepers also participated in the 2021 United States coup d'etat attempt in Washington DC on 6 January 2021.
