Oakley Chester Curtis (29 March 1865-22 February 1924) was the Democratic Governor of Maine from 6 January 1915 to 3 January 1917, succeeding William T. Haines and preceding Carl E. Milliken.
Biography[]
Oakley Chester Curtis was born in Portland, Maine in 1865, and he worked for trust companies before becoming a Portland alderman in 1901, a state representative from 1903 to 1904, a State Senator from 1905 to 1908, as Mayor of Portland from 1911 to 1914, and as Governor from 1915 to 1917. He improved labor laws for women and children, and he died in 1924.
