The O'Connell Guards were an Irish-American street gang that was active in the Five Points in the 1840s.

History[]

The O'Connell Guards were one of the original and most important gangs in The Bowery part of Manhattan, New York City alongside the Atlantic Guards and Bowery Boys, and they were affiliated with the Dead Rabbits and the other gangs of Irish immigrants. In 1846, they took part in the Battle of the Five Points alongside the Dead Rabbits.
