Nur Otan is a conservative political party in Kazakhstan, founded in 2006 by President Nursultan Nazarbayev as his centrist "party of power". The party was formed as a merger of the Otan and Asar Party, and Nazarbayev sought to create a party that would rule unchallenged for 50 years. In 2007, the party won 88.05% of the vote and all 107 seats in the Mazhilis, only to be reduced to 83/107 Mazhlis seats by 2017. The party was the typical Central Asian "party of power", holding centrist and authoritarian views that allowed for Nazarbayev to rule over Kazakhstan as an autocrat.
