Nur Devlet

Nur Devlet (died 1503) was Khan of Crimea from 1466 to 1467 (succeeding Haci I Giray and preceding Menli I Giray), from 1467 to 1469 (interrupting Menli's terms), and from 1475 to 1478 (succeeding Hayder and preceding Menli). He also ruled the Qasim Khanate from 1486 to 1491, succeeding Daniyal ibn Qasim and preceding Satylghan ibn Nur Daulat.

Biography[]

Nur Devlet was a son of Haci I Giray, founder of the Crimean Khanate. He was elected Khan by the beys on his father's death in 1466, but his brother Menli I Giray revolted with the support of the Crimean nobility, challenging the Great Horde-backed Nur Devlet. The two brothers repeatedly deposed each other and returned to power, and Nur Devlet was installed in power for a last time by the Ottoman Turks in 1475. He reigned as a vassal of the Turks until 1478, when the Ottomans replaced him with Menli due to Nur Devlet's intervention on the wrong side of the Great Horde's civil war. He entered Russian service in 1479 and became the ruler of the Qasim Khanate, a Russian client state. He campaigned against the sons of Ahmed Khan bin Kuchuk until his death from illness in 1503.
