Nova Scotia is one of Canada's three maritime provinces, with Halifax serving as its capital. "Nova Scotia" means "New Scotland" in Latin, and the region was formerly known as "Acadia" while it was under French rule from 1605 to 1710. In 1710, Great Britain conquered the region, and it was confederated in 1867 as a part of Canada. In 2016, Nova Scotia had a population of 923,598.
