Norwenna

Norwenna (born 10 December 454) was the wife of Prince Mordred ap Uther of Durnac, the daughter-in-law of Uther Pendragon, and the sister-in-law of King Arthur.

Biography[]

Born on 10 December 454 to the House of Llywelin, Norwenna was born to a Christian Romano-British family. She went on to marry Uther Pendragon's son and heir Mordred ap Uther, the Prince of Durnac and the heir to the throne of Dumnonia. In 479, she became pregnant, but her husband was killed at the Battle of the White Horse before her child could be born. On 3 December 479, Norwenna went into labor, and she and the child nearly died before Uther's daughter, the sorceress Morgan le Fay, performed a pagan ritual to save their lives. Morgan then pulled the child out of Norwenna, leaving him slightly maimed, and Uther named the child Mordred after his father. King Gundleus of Siluria later attempted to arrange Norwenna's marriage to him to make peace between the Welsh and the Romano-British, but, as the marriage plans fell through, war eventually broke out between the Silures and the Dumnonians.
