The Northwest Passage is a sea route connecting the Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean along the northern coast of North America, passing through various waterways in the arctic archipelago of Canada. John Cabot's voyage to explore the Northwest Passage in 1498 ended with his disappearance along with his whole crew, but in 1854 Robert McClure became the first explorer to transit the Northwest Passage by boat and sledge, circumnavigating the Americas.
