Northumberland is a county in northeastern England, the northernmost county of the country. The county town is Alnwick, with Morpeth being the site of the county council. Northumberland used to be an independent kingdom known as "Northumbria", and Newcastle upon Tyne used to be the capital before it became its own county in 1400. In 2016, the region had a population of 315,987 people.
