The Northern Ireland Assembly is the devolved legislature of Northern Ireland under the United Kingdom, created under the Good Friday Agreement of 1998. The legislature had 108 seats, and power was shared between Irish republican parties and Irish unionist parties. The Protestant Democratic Unionist Party and the Catholic Sinn Fein party are the two largest parties sharing power in the government.
