North and South Jersey

North Jersey is a region of northern New Jersey, located to the north of the Raritan River and to the south of the Hudson River. Northeastern North Jersey is considered to be a part of the New York City metropolitan area, and many North Jerseyans commute to New York for work. In 2000, the region had a population of 3,492,590 people, with 66.8% being white, 15.4% African-American, .2% Native American, 6.6% Asian, .1% Pacific islander, and 18.5% Hispanic.
