North East England is one of the nine official regions of England. It includes the counties of Northumberland, County Durham, and Tyne and Wear, and major settlements include Durham, Darlington, Gateshead, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, South Shields, Stockton-on-Teas, and Washington. In 2011, North East England had a population of 2,597,000 people.
