North Dakota is a state located in the Midwest region of the United States. North Dakota was named for the Dakota tribe of the Great Plains, and it was taken from the Sioux and other Native American tribes in the late 19th century. On 2 November 1889, North Dakota and South Dakota were admitted to the union, with North Dakota being the 39th state. The capital is Bismarck, while the largest city is Fargo; in 2015, the state had a population of 756,927, with most of the population descending from Germans, Dutch and Scandinavians. It is currently the 4th least densely populated state as well as the 4th least populated state.
