North Bergen

North Bergen is a township in Hudson County, New Jersey. The town was founded in 1843, and North Bergen - along with the other "Bergen"-named locations in the area - was named for the Norwegian-Dutch settler Hans Hansen Bergen (originally from Bergen, Norway). North Bergen was greatly diminished by the secession of several new towns during the second half of the 19th century. However, uring the early 1900s, residential districts developed along and between Kennedy Boulevard and Boulevard East, and it grew significantly in population during the second half of the 20th century. Many residents were Latin American immigrants, with the first immigrants being Cuban emigres during the 1960s. During the 21st century, the Trinitarios were active along 7th Street, within blocks of North Berfgen High School. In 2016, North Bergen had a population of 62,886 people, and 68.4% were Hispanic.
