North Africa is a geopolitical region of Africa that includes Morocco, Western Sahara, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, and Sudan, with the countries of Mauritania, Mali, Niger, and Chad sometimes being counted as part of North Africa despite being located in the Maghreb. The region is overwhelmingly Sunni Muslim, and much of the populace consists of Berbers and Arabs, including Arabized indigenous peoples and mixed-race Tuaregs. Culturally, it has more in common with the Middle East than the other parts of Africa south of the Sahara, with the language of Arabic and Arab culture being widespread in the region.
