Norrbotten

Norrbotten is a province in northern Sweden, bordering Vasterbotten, Lappland, and Finland. During the Middle Ages, the area was sparsely populated by the Sami people, and Swedish kings attempted to colonize and Christianize the region. Finnish settlers controlled trade and taxation long into the 16th century, when the area became more Swedish. In 2016, Norrbotten had a population of 195,024 people.
