
Clarence Norman Brunsdale (9 July 1891-27 January 1978) was the Republican Governor of North Dakota from 3 January 1951 to 9 January 1957 (succeeding Fred G. Aandahl and preceding John E. Davis) and a US Senator from 19 November 1959 to 7 August 1960 (succeeding William Langer and preceding Quentin Burdick).
Biography[]
Norman Brunsdale was born in Sherbrooke, North Dakota in 1891, the son of Norwegian-American parents. He worked as a farmer before serving in the state senate from 1927 to 1934 and from 1941 to 1951, as Governor from 1951 to 1957, and in the US Senate from 1959 to 1960. He was an avid supporter of water development projects and supported Black civil rights. He died in 1978.
