Norimasa Hayashi (4 January 1886 – 2 October 1962) was a Lieutenant-General of the Imperial Japanese Army who led the IJA 28th Corps in the Philippines during World War II.
Biography[]
Norimasa Hayashi was born in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture in 1886. Hayashi enlisted in the Imperial Japanese Army in 1904, and he saw action in the Russo-Japanese War in Korea. Hayashi graduated from a military academy in 1909 and from the Army War College in 1917, and he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the IJA 20th Infantry Regiment. Hayashi would later be transferred to Kwantung, and he fought in the Second Sino-Japanese War and in other battles against China. Hayashi was promoted to Major-General in 1937 and Lieutenant-General in 1941, and he led the IJA 28th Corps during the Battle of the Philippines. He was forced to surrender as US Marine Corps forces continually pushed his forces back.
