Norbert Tiemann (18 July 1924-19 June 2012) was the Republican Governor of Nebraska from 5 January 1967 to 7 January 1971, succeeding Frank B. Morrison and preceding J. James Exon.
Biography[]
Norbert Tiemann was born in Minden, Nebraska in 1924, and he went to high school in Campbell before serving in the US Army during World War II and in the Korean War. After returning to America, he served three terms as Mayor of Wausa, and he served as Governor of Nebraska from 1967 to 1971, pushing for a number of progressive changes such as the adoption of a new tax structure, new programs of state financial aid to education, the expansion of the University of Nebraska, the state's first minimum-wage law, and open-housing legislation. His re-election bid was defeated by the Democrat J. James Exon, and he served as Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration from 1973 to 1977. He died in 2012.
