Nolan Cassidy (1974 - 10 November 2020) was an American security consultant and Herald for the shadow government Providence. He formerly served in the United States Secret Service and the US Marine Corps, before serving as a security consultant for the Moreno Cartel, which resulted in his recruitment to Providence. Cassidy was killed by former ICA agent 47 while serving as security chief for former Providence Constant Janus.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Nolan Cassidy was born in 1974 in Arlington, Virginia, U.S to a military family; as a result, he moved around frequently and spent much of his childhood in or around military bases. At 18, he signed up for the US Marine Corps and served in the Kosovo War where he earned several medals, including a Bronze Star and a Navy Distinguished Service Medal. Cassidy was honorably discharged, but still wanted to serve his country.

Due to his accolades, he made a fine recruit for the United States Secret Service and joined the protective branch in 2000. He was at the White House when acting Vice President Daniel Morris was assassinated by ICA agent 47 in 2005. As a result, he was let go and eventually became a security consultant for the Moreno Cartel, secretly an important Providence asset in South America.

Providence[]

Cassidy made a great impression on his Moreno superiors, resulting in Providence, a shadow government consisting of influential men and women who control the world's affairs, to recruit Cassidy as a Herald, an operative who delivers orders from his superiors to standard Providence operatives. He operated in the southern United States and Latin America, adapting to his more corporate role effectively for over a decade.

However, when Lucas Grey began his shadow war against Providence in 2019, Cassidy was reassigned to be the chief of security for former Providence Constant and KGB spymaster Janus, who resided in the sleepy Vermont suburb of Whittleton Creek. Shortly after arriving, he significantly increased the security around Janus, which raised the suspicions of local townspeople. Cassidy resented this position, as he was not eager to babysit a bitter old man who constantly berated him and his staff.

Death[]

By November 2020, Cassidy and Janus were marked as targets for assassination by Grey, 47's handler Diana Burnwood, and hacktivist Olivia Hall, with 47 tasked to eliminate them. Several other targets were also given, though these were for monetary purposes and not for their plan against Providence. 47 arrived in Whittleton Creek on 10 November, disguising himself as a real estate agent and showing Cassidy around a house he wished to buy.

Cassidy remained uninterested in the house until he was shown the basement vault, where he dismissed his bodyguard to check if the vault was obvious on the surface before inspecting the interior. Then, 47 activated the basement tripwires, causing Cassidy to run into them and cause shrapnel from explosions to pierce his head and torso, killing him.

Legacy[]

The investigation of Cassidy's death ruled it a freak accident, with real estate agent Samir Chandra initially charged with murder before being deemed not guilty by a jury. At Don Archibald Yates' farewell party in 2021, Herald Tamara Vidal told Diana Burnwood that she thought he was a bit grumpy, but she liked him.
