Nobatia was a Nubian kingdom which existed from 400 to the 7th century AD, with Pachoras serving as its capital. Together with Makuria and Alodia, it succeeded Cush, and it gradually expanded by defeating the Blemmyes in the north. In 543 AD, Nobatia adopted Coptic Christianity as its state religion, and it was annexed by Makuria before the Muslim conquest of 652.
