Nikolaus Schromburgk (1609-) was the Courlander German Governor of New Courland during the 1650s. In 1655, he oversaw the construction and expansion of Jacobsstadt on Tobago, and he also led expeditions against the French, Dutch, English, and Spanish colonies in the region to remove Courland's local rivals. He assaulted New Languedoc, New Volendam, Grenada, and Porlamar, razing each settlement before returning to his island. None of the rival colonial powers surrendered, and they quickly rebuilt their towns; it would be the Couronians who would be the first colonial power to be driven from the Caribbean, in 1659.
