
Nikolai Rysakov (2 May 1861-3 April 1881) was a Narodnaya Volya member and an attempted assassin of Czar Alexander II of Russia. His bomb failed to dent Alexander's carriage, and it was the bomb thrown by Ignacy Hryniewiecki that killed Alexander.
Biography[]
Nikolai Rysakov was born in Arbozerskoy, Novgorod Governorate, Russian Empire, and he studied mining engineering in St. Petersburg, Russia. In 1879, he joined the Narodnaya Volya movement, and he joined a "fighting squad" in February 1881 with the goal of assassinating Czar Alexander II of Russia. On 1 March 1881, he threw a bomb under the carriage of the czar, but it succeeded only in injuring a few passengers; Rysakov was arrested. However, he signalled Ignacy Hryniewiecki, who succeeded in killing the czar with another bomb. On 3 April 1881, Rysakov was hanged for the assassination of the czar.
