
Nicolas Lindley Lopez (16 November 1908-3 February 1995) was President of Peru from 3 March to 28 July 1963, succeeding Ricardo Perez Godoy and preceding Fernando Belaunde.
Biography[]
Nicolas Lindley Lopez was born in Lima, Peru to a family of partial English descent, and he graduated from military school in 1930. He rose to command the Peruvian Army by 1960, and, in 1962, he and Ricardo Perez Godoy overthrew President Manuel Prado Ugarteche to prevent the election of fascist dictator Manuel A. Odria to power. He later deposed Perez after he appeared inclined to stay in power, and Lindley oversaw elections in 1963. He then served as Ambassador to Spain from 1964 to 1975 and died in 1995.
