Nguyen Thi Binh (26 May 1928-) was Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of South Vietnam from 8 June 1969 to 2 July 1976 and Vice President of Vietnam from 10 September 1992 to 8 August 2002 (succeeding Nguyen Thi Dinh and preceding Truong My Hoa).
Biography[]
Nguyen Thi Binh was born in Chau Thanh, Sa Dec Province, French Indochina in 1928, and she worked as a teacher before joining the Indochinese Communist Party in 1948. From 1945 to 1951, she took part in revolutionary intellectual movements against the French colonists, and she was jailed by the French from 1951 to 1953. During the Vietnam War, she served on the Central Committee of the NLF and served as Foreign Minister of the Provisional Revolutionary Government from 1969 to 1976. She also served as the Viet Cong's representative at the Paris Peace Accords, playing a major role in ending the US involvement in Vietnam. From 1976 to 1987, she served as Education Minister of Vietnam, and she served as Vice President from 1992 to 2002.
