The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is a liberal-conservative political party in Ghana that was founded in 1992. The party was founded after the restoration of democracy to Ghana, and it became one of the two largest parties in the country, rivalling the social democratic National Democratic Congress of Ghana. The party was the ideological successor of Kwame Nkrumah's United Gold Coast Convention party, and its initial leaders were opponents of Jerry Rawlings' military dictatorship. In 2017, it held 169/275 Parliament seats and 2/5 Pan-African Parliament seats.
