The New Party Sakigake was a liberal-conservative political party in Japan that was active from 1993 to 2004. The party was centrist, and it had many reformist and moderate ecological elements. After the 1993 election, Sakigake joined Morihiro Hosokawa's anti-Jiminto coalition government, and it also supported Tsutomu Hata's government, although it did not join the cabinet. In 1996, the liberal members of Sakigake left to form the Democratic Party of Japan, leading Sakigake as a diminished conservative party. The party went into a steep decline after 1998, and it dissolved itself in 2004 after not winning any seats in the parliamentary elections.
