The New Mexico Territory was an organized incorporated territory of the United States that existed from 9 September 1850 to 9 January 1912. The territory was acquired from Mexico under the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, and it encompassed parts of Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, and Kansas, being expanded by the 1853 Gadsden Purchase. In 1861, the Colorado Territory was established, followed by the Arizona Territory in 1863. In 1912, New Mexico was granted statehood, becoming a full state of the USA.
