Nepalis, also known as Gurkha, are an Indo-Aryan ethnic group from the country of Nepal in the Indian Subcontinent. There are various ethnic groups in Nepal, with Chhettri making up the largest percentage (16.6%), then Brahman-Hill (12.2%), Magars (7.1%) the Tharu (6.6%), the Tamang (5.8%), the Newar (5%), the Kami (4.8%), Muslims (4.4%), Yadav (4%), Rai (2.3%), and 31.2% others. The main languages are Nepali (44.6%) and Maithili (11.7%). 81.3% of Nepalis practice Hinduism, 9% Buddhism, 4.4% Islam, 3% Kirat Mundhum, 1.4% Christianity, and .9% other faiths. In 2011, the world had a population of 30,000,000 Nepalis, 26,620,809 of which lived in Nepal and 2,871,749 in India.
