
Nematollah Nassiri (1911-16 February 1979) was chief of the SAVAK from 1966 to 1978, succeeding Hassan Pakravan and preceding Nasser Moghadam. Nassiri was executed for his role in attempting to suppress the Iranian Revolution.
Biography[]
Nematollah Nassiri was born in Semnan, Iran in 1911, and he served as commander of the Imperial Guards under Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. In 1953, he took part in the coup against Mohammad Mosaddegh's government, and he was appointed head of SAVAK in 1966, leading the group for twelve years. Nassiri was responsible for torturing and executing enemies of the Shahist regime, leading the brutal police force for a long period of time. In 1979, during the Iranian Revolution, he was arrested and executed by firing squad at Qasr Prison.
