Nejd is a remote region in the central Arabian Peninsula in present-day Saudi Arabia. Inhabited by Arab tribes, it remained undeveloped and not industrialized well into the 20th century, yet had its own culture of people who worshiped Islam and traded cattle for food and milk.
Nejd ended up being colonized by the German Empire in 1897 and remained its colony until the end of World War I in 1918. It became part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia when the state was founded in 1932.
