Nectanebo I (died 360 BC) was Pharaoh of Egypt from 378 to 370 BC, succeeding Nepherites II and preceding Teos.
Biography[]
Nectanebo was born in Sebennytos, Egypt, the son of officer Djedhor, and he rose to an army command. With the help of the Athenian general Chabrias, he overthrew and executed Pharaoh Nepherites II and became Pharaoh, overseeing the restoration of Egypt's once-great temples. In 374 BC, Achaemenid emperor Artaxerxes II dispatched 200,000 troops and 500 ships to crush the Egyptian revolt, but the Egyptians - aided by weather conditions - repulsed this invasion. Nectanebo also financed anti-Persian revolts in other provinces from 368 BC, and he allied with Athens and Sparta. He died in 360 BC.
