Neaera was a Megarian farmer who lived in Megara, Greece during the 5th century BC.
Biography[]
Neaera was born in Megara, Megaris to an agricultural family, and she worked as a farmer. In 431 BC, during Sparta's siege of Megaris, Neaera and other farmers had their food stolen from them by the Spartan army, and they took advantage of Hyrkanos the Cunning's massacre of a Spartan supply convoy to steal back some of the food and bring it to a cave near the Grave of Tereus. There, they were confronted by the mercenary Kassandra, who told them that she would spare them if they would give back some of the supplies; Kassandra then went back to the Spartan officer Dolios and lied to him, telling him that she had killed the thieves and brought back all of the supplies.
