Abou Al-Harith Nawfal ibn Al-Harith, is a companion of the Prophet Mohamad, as well as his cousin. He participated in particular in the battle of Hunayn and Taif.

Biography[]

Abu Al-Harith Nawfal ibn Al-Harith, was born in Mecca to Arabia's most famous and influential clan, the Banu Hashim. His father is Harith bin Abd-Al-Mutalib, and his mother and Gazia bint Kaiss from the Banu Fihr clan, his sons are Al-Harith, Abd-Allah, Al-Mughira, Abd-Al-Rahman, Rabi'ah, Saad , Um Al-Mughira, Um Said and Um Al-Hakim. His uncles are Abu Lahab, Abd-Allah, Al-Zubayr, Al-Abass, Abu Talib, Qoutoum, Abd-Al-Kaaba, Hamza, Dirar, Al-Mouqawim, and his aunts are are Saffiya, Al-Baydae, Arwa, Oumayma, Barra. As for his brothers and sisters: Abou oufyane, Rabi'ah, Abd-Allah, Al-Mughira, Arwa and Hind. Nawfal grew up and was educated within Mecca. He was in his day the oldest hashemite, he was even older of his uncles Abass and Hamza. He was one of the Hashemites who were forced by the Meccan authorities to participate in the battle of Badr, so he wrote a poem showing his sadness, because he was forced to fight his cousin the Prophet Mohammad. After the end of the battle he was imprisoned by the Muslims and then released.

In 627, Nawafal converted to Islam and immigrated to Medina, in Medina he would help a lot the Islamic army offering them arrows, shields ... After the capture of Mecca, he will participate in the battle of Hunayn and Taif. In 637, under Caliph Omar, he died.
