The Nationalist Party was a reactionary political party in 19th and 20th-century Peru. The Nationalist Party supported the interests of the criollo elite, arguing in favor of a strong central government that had complete control over the economy, in addition to opposing multiculturalism. The party sought to protect the entrenched elite's interests in the country, and it supported Jose de San Martin's view that a monarchy (with plenty of military support) was needed to provide control and order. The party allied with the People's Party of Peru against the Liberal Party of Peru during elections.
