The Nationalist Faction was a reactionary political clique in Japan that was active from 1867 to 1936. The faction was formed in the aftermath of the Boshin War, and it supported nationalism overseas, as it supported an aggressive foreign policy, high tariffs to decrease foreign competition in Japanese trade, and a strong sense of Japanese culture. The party advocated less extreme economic policies than the Imperialist Faction, as it merely supported an economy in which the government could intervene in private business affairs, while the Imperialists supported a state-run capitalist economy.
